My youngest son is my 1st mate in the kitchen, you can find the two of us working, experimenting, and cooking together in our kitchen any day of the week. And if I ever need an assistant he is ALWAYS there! He really shares my love and talent of cooking. He is always experimenting with different types of proteins from wild game to some of the rarest of sea life and everything in between.
We love to visit our local butcher shop, where he is like a kid in a candy store, lol. (Thankfully he has a job, in the cooking industry of course!) This is here we found the Ground Elk that you in the picture, which he used in making a Shepard’s Pie. I have a confession to make, and being mostly Irish this may be a bit of a shock, but I don’t typically like Shepard’s Pie. I know, what is wrong with me, right?!
With that said, I actually enjoyed his Shepard’s Pie with the Ground Elk. The texture was similar to that of ground beef and the flavor was not as “gamey” as I was expecting. And it was not greasy or fatty, not leaving a puddle of grease at the bottom of the pie. And it still maintained the flavor of the meat and spices that it was cooked with.
So, in all I would recommend trying it for yourself. We have future plans of using the Ground Elk to make other dish such as Elk burgers and Meatballs. Check back to see our review on future dishes with Ground Elk!
